Italian Pizza Burgers

As promised in yesterday’s post, I am excited to share with you my recipe for Pizza Burgers. When I was a kid, my momma used to buy these crazy awesome pizza patties. They were the frozen kind, and I think we would eat them on toast. I can just remember them being simply amazing.

I decided today to recreate the pizza burger on my newly baked pretzel buns. The recipe is pretty simple, but I’ve added some necessary ingredients to make this a one of a kind burger.

  • 1/4 cup mushrooms
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 slices hard salami
  • 1 grilled hamburger patty
  • 1 slice provolone cheese
  • 2 tbsp fennel seed
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • 2 tbsp garlic seasoning powder
  • Spinach leaves (as needed)
  • Pizza sauce (as needed)

Combine butter and mushrooms in a bowl and microwave for 4 minutes. This will reduce the mushrooms to small bits that will be used to sprinkle on the burger mixture later. Once cooked, set aside.

Grill a hamburger patty to your liking. Once fully cooked, cut into bite-sized strips and place onto a microwave safe plate. Layer the patty with shredded pieces of salami, fennel seeds, oregano, shredded provolone and mushroom bits. Microwave for a minute, or until cheese is melted.

If you’re using the pretzel buns, place them in the microwave for 30 seconds. This will ensure that they are warm and fluffy for eating! I also recommend cutting the bun in half. Pretzel buns are pretty dense, so it all depends on how much bread you want with your burgers.

Spoon the pizza sauce on the inside of the rolls and top with pizza patty mixture.

Place the burger in the microwave for an additional 30 seconds to 1 minute. This gets everything nice and melty so it sticks together better. Mmmm… melty.
